This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Gatekeepers, or Cannon, or anything like that. Still I figured that the people who can probably help are all here, and the people who need to not know won't ever come here, and this means that I don't have to set up a filter. Basically, I'm being lazy. *grin*
So, here's the situation. Last week, one of the other players (a Toreador) came up to my character (an Assamite, for those of you who didn't know or have forgotten) and asked if she knew how to use tiger claws. My character, having lived in Alamut for thirty years and having nothing in terms of military prowess but two dots of Dodge, hedged her bets. Basically, the guy wants a teacher, and is willing to do anything to get one.
A bit of a digression here. At Kublacon the year before this, I watched a sorcerer get mowed down by a judge because she had tried to bring a Giovanni into the fold. The Council objected to this, and she got killed for it. Anyway, it seems clear that (at least in OWbN) if you accept the tenets of the Assamites and you're not a Tremere or a Giovanni, you can join the clan. (Apparent;y, this holds true for a lot of clans. Or at least for the Malkavians as well.)
Another small digression. I pushed a really freaking huge rock, and am now a walking plot grenade. So, I feel like I ought to encourage plot in other people. Anyway...
So, bascially, I told him that I couldn't help him. I knew people who could help him, probably the best in the world, but they wouldn;t talk to him. Not unless he proved himself worthy.
So, I'm in the position to design a series of tests for another PC, some of which should be obvious tests, some of which should not be. Loyalty and virtue, and specifically, detication to training, to martial arts, and dedication to humanity.
Does anyone have any ideas? Brilliant and not brilliant taken alike; I need both obvious and inobvious tests.
Thank you for anything. Current Mood: amused

In the comfort of those who just returned from ComicCon, I am proposing that we have the LAST Exalted game on Tuesday. Is this okay with people? A problem? Let me know.

No game tonight! Brian is buried in files and is unable to get out of his office. Current Mood: not surprised in the slightest
Monday, May 16th, 2005
I'm going to post this here, just to try to spread the word...
Brian has called off his game for tonight, and Jeff doesn't have time to put his Grand Finale together.
Any thoughts on what folks want to do? Cody's game, movies, going out to eat, etc?
Monday, April 18th, 2005
EDIT: Brian just emailed back, and said that he'd run a suckass game tonight if he ran. If Jeff is willing to run Union Shield, he'll be there, we'll just have to keep him awake. He also mentioned the possibility of discussing Jeff's new game.
Just letting folks know that there is a *POSSIBILITY* that game will not be on tonight, due to a combo of sickness/hangover for Brian.
1. No game.
2. Swap for Union Shield, which would depend on Jeff and the lack of a Brian.
3. Prep night for Jeff's new game, which would also depend on Jeff.

Ok, unless there's a bunch of e-mail sent to me over the weekend asking for the game to be in New Orleans, it looks like Ireland it is.
In which case, Kris has a concept she likes that doesn't work as Gatekeeper. Meaning if anyone else wants to volunteer, you have this weekend to do it in, or else it comes down to a private vote by e-mail between Cody and Steve.
With this knowledge in mind, carry on starting to hammer out character concepts and find ways to link as many people as possible if you're sharing your ideas.
And as it currently looks like it will be in Ireland, if someone wants to play a Juliet, that ought to be doable. Jen Walker has expressed interest.
As usual, questions, comments and feedback - please send them to me. Union Shield still has a couple months to run, but I want as much of that time to start plotting, planning and building as possible. Current Mood: crappy
Alright, game update.
We have a group leaning towards Ireland. There's also a few people leaning towards New Orleans.
In addition to the normal group, Jen (my wife Jen) has expressed an interest in joining the game if its in New Orleans, as that would let her play a specific character she loves, but not if its in Ireland. She's neutral overall as to whether she goes to the game or not - just will play if its one, won't if its the other.
Jen Walker has also expressed an interest in joining, but will be a little bit late to games. I tentatively said this would be alright, but I do want to know if it would be an issue for others?
We have a group of likely characters coming together, which is great.
So what I do need though - everyone, please, here or on e-mail, send me which gate you'd prefer, N.O. or Ireland. E-mail is Chasejyd@blarg.net
Someone point Brian to this thread too.
I also need to know, by private e-mails only, please - does anyone else wish to be Gatekeeper, or shall I run the vote between Kris, Cody and Steve? Current Mood: sick

So anyway, just staying current with this, and tossing out more info, as promised.
This is going to be a magic heavy game. There's some room for non-magic types, but most should at least lean that direction. And an occult skill of at least 2 is required.
I'm going to be fairly heavy handed on the 3 powers that have come across as the most abusiable. Dynamic Powers, Power Flux and Summon. This doesn't mean they aren't possible or allowed, but expect extra scrutiny. Anyone who takes one of these three powersets : I'm doing the get 3 approvals thing again before submitting to me. If one of these 3 is on your sheet, 2 of the 3 are chosen for you - some combination of Cody, Steve and Sean (2 of the 3) have to check it for highly abusable stuff and approve the sheet before I'll even look it over. Those people will be encouraged to be reasonably harsh, especially about very open ended Dynamic Powers. (note for Sean: that's 'reasonably harsh, not fascist bastard, so you can quit grinning evilly now)
So far the gates with the most apparent interest have been Ireland and New Orleans. If there's other particular thoughts, people should chime in. I'd like to have enough of an idea of where at least to start piecing things together. If people like these locations, but prefer one or the other, let me know that too.
There's 3 people who've expressed interest in the GK character. Anyone else?
One person interested in the apprentice. One asking for more info on the Juliet agent, who would be possible in Ireland, not so much in New Orleans, which is fine either way.
So far, I've heard beginning ideas for :
A part fae character
A Catholic demon-summoner
As always, ideas, questions, nominations for locations or preferences between Ireland and N.O.... etc., toss them may way here or in e-mail. Current Mood: calm

Ok, so far we have three people stating an interest in the Gatekeeper position.
We've had one proposal for Rome or that region, and one for Ireland.
Anyone else want to toss input in?
Otherwise, one potential interest in a Juliet, and one in the apprentice as well.
Feel free to toss me questions, input, feedback, etc. I'm kind of having fun starting to put the pieces together. Current Mood: okay

So... new game stuffs
Ok, very quick post for people.
Last time we did cooperative chargen, it came across as a neat idea and all, but perhaps a little rushed. So I'm going to do things slightly differently this time. Barring someone else wanting my time spot in the GM rotation, I'm going to be running a new Gatekeepers game. The gates are a central focus of the Canon universe, and I want to play with them.
This will not be in San Francisco, nor Calgary, so no PCs will be brought in from previous games.
Chargen will be done cooperatively again, with people having a chance to go over concepts and ideas with each other, and before I'll approve any characters, people need to get thumbs up from other people. This time though, its going to be a longer term process instead of throwing one night together.
Right now, its really informal. People can come up with concepts and such, figure out connections to other PCs, etc. But I wanted to get a head start for those interested, and give out what details I know so far.
It will be a Gatekeepers game. I don't know what gate yet. What interests people? There's a number of open gates. New Orleans needs a new GK, Colorado is known to have someone of shamanistic tradition as GK, but no concrete info who he/she is. England and Ireland with both need new GKs. Spain will need a new GK. China will need a new GK. There's also a bunch of really open ones worldwide. Please toss me some feedback.
The points will range again, but in a much smaller range this time. I like the diversity, but don't want as extreme a gap. Point range will run from 140-190 I think, benefitting a higherish point game, with challenges to match.
There's two exceptions.
I need a Gatekeeper. This will be a 150 point character on their own, with a 75 point item of power. They also get a free maxed out 'Organizational Ties' stat for Gatekeepers of the World, 3 levels of wealth, and being a guaranteed plot bitch.
I'm taking volunteers early to try and have this settled. I'll hold a vote again if I get more than one. If you do not feel you can reliably make at least 3 out of 4 game sessions on a regular basis, don't volunteer. As we saw in the San Fran game, the game really needs a Gatekeeper, and they need to be present. The GK player will have more say in things like which gate they want to run than most other players, and will have a lot to do with the game's flavor, so its helpful to resolve this as soon as possible.
An apprentice. This is someone to pick up for the GK if they are indisposed rl or in game for longer periods. Following my usual sidekick rules.
120 point character.
1 skill at 6 with 2 specialties. This is the only way to have a skill above 5.
1 extra CP per game session where there was regular contact with the GK.
Will be able to use the key if the Gatekeeper is indisposed, despite the normal user restrictions on the keys.
Automatic assistant plot bitch.
Doesn't need to be as regular as the Gatekeeper to games.
Otherwise for everyone else : characters /must/ have 2 points of occult or better.
Characters /must/ know at least one other character, and ideally more. The greater the ties within this group, the better.
Because it is a major element of the universe, depending on the region the game is in, I'm interested in having one person play a Juliet. Someone asked to help keep an eye on the Gatekeeper. This person, if there is one, /cannot/ help make decisions regarding the gate, its not their place, but will be assigned to play liason, offer occasional, limited aid, and protect the Gatekeeper. This person would get free organizational ties, 2 points of Features: Attractive, and wealth 2.
Otherwise, leaning strongly towards favoring magical archetypes, and characters who have a reasonable number of ties to one another at game start.
Also very much want feedback.

Yes, we're still having Gatekeepers...
Here is a message from Brian:
So here's my dilemma: I can and will keep running Gatekeepers (as I've said repeatedly), but the idea of the Gatekeepers - the very spark that drives to team to be heroes- seems pretty frikin' dead, and I'm growing bored with them. Not bored with roleplaying, and certainly not bored roleplaying with this group, but just boooored with the work-a-day Gatekeepers. I suspect I'm not the only one.
Lady Gargoyle is dead, Tim is dead, Stephanie is AWOL and now Mr. Mystic...well, I guess he'll just have to go on yet another NPC hiatus. Of the characters that remain, they all have a dry, passionless relationship with one another, and seemingly no drive (or concept) of how to make the team a global organization. They're like super-unionists, begrudgingly maintaining a gateway that -for all its supposed mystery- has developed into a plot crutch. And controlled by a key that would likely lessen any character who took it (*sigh* "All right...I guess if someone has to be the Gatekeeper, it might as well be me") .
I'm coming to game tonight, and I have something I can run, but I'd also like to discuss the possibility of doing something else for a while. Maybe a team with more passion, angst and a more purposeful take on their place in the to the Canon Comics Universe. Something fresh.
I wish I could articulate this better in these few minutes I have at work today, but this is just a mental itch that needed a scratch. My response to this game as a GM has long been 'paint-by-numbers', and be thankful it's only once a month. I hate that. I want to be excited about pathos, spandex and secret identities again.
Kat's $.02 - Personally, I agree with him. It is something we can debate this evening but for whatever reaons a lot of the passion has gone out of the Gatekeepers. I want to fall in love with superheroes again in the Canon universe and it feels like it has been awhile. I think this might have been some of the issue here for me as well. I haven't felt a spark while thinking about playing Fiera in awhile. Current Mood: contemplative
Yea or nay?
Has anyone heard from Brian today as to whether there will be game tonight or not?

Could everyone spread this around?
Brian is cancelling Gatekeepers this evening due to work considerations. The place he's working this evening wants to keep him until 9 this evening.
Let everyone know, thanks.

Schedule change... and lameness
Hey gang... so work is wacky fun right now and along with many other things, my schedule has changed...I will be working until 7 pm ...
I am still all for game for Union Shield and GateKeepers, but just to give the head's up I will be getting there a little later... about 1/2 hour or so... like around 7:30 pm. Sorry for the inconvience, if it was up to me it wouldn't have changed.

An FYI for tonight
Brian e-mailed me to let you all know that he is in a serious amount of hurting at the moment. He's going to the doctor at 4:30 to see what can be done. If things aren't better, he won't be running game tonight. I've asked him to inform me, or someone else with a cell phone, if there is an update on that status. Current Mood: hopeful

Just a quick FYI for IC purposes....
Fierra is not going to be staying at the mansion for the next bit of time. She will be contactable via comms and she will be more than willing to come over if and when she is needed. (It only takes a minute or two at most.) Right now she just isn't staying at the mansion. If anyone wants to talk to her about it or ask where she is or whatever, I'm more than open for e-mail RP. Current Mood: busy
Sunday, June 6th, 2004
Now that Stephanie is a PC, it would really help to know more about interactions that people have had with her in the past to help me play her better... so Stephanie stories pretty please, interactions you've had... stuff that I should know..
Thursday, May 20th, 2004
I know it is a holiday but Brian says May 31st.
There is some chatting that should probably happen at some point about Gatekeepers and such. If only to remember where we were and so on and so forth.
Oh... and if anyone wants to use this for things related to other Canon games, feel free. I'd rather it get some use than not at all. Current Mood: tired

Just in case... RE: GAME TONIGHT!
.. and because I don't trust mailing lists for the most part, I'll post this here as well.
Cody wrote me e-mail and called me. He got less than 5 hours of sleep last night and is feeling mentaly fatigued. He is not going to be able to run anything this evening. If people still want to come over to hang out, there will be people at the house for such things.
